Although there isn’t an official release date for Watch Dogs yet, that doesn’t mean future players are any less interested in what the developers have planned for post-launch DLC packs.

One of the game’s developers, Dominic Guay, spoke to Total Xbox about future plans for add-on content.

Bear in mind that the interview was conducted before Watch Dogs’ initial delay. It’s possible that some of the stories that the team had planned to flesh out and explore in DLC may now be included in the game’s main campaign, but there’s no doubt that there will still be plenty of other stories to mine for add-on content.

Of course it’s no surprise that a game that has produced as much hype as Watch Dogs plans to cash in on the DLC market. The more interesting part of the interview came when Guay started discussing the possibility of bite-sized chunks of DLC for the game, rather than the traditional method of one big, heavily promoted pack. Microtransactions?

When asked about the impending thoughts on the ‘death’ of traditional DLC, Guay agreed that a new era is on the way and he says that Watch Dogs is prepared.

Although Guay didn’t rule out the possibility of a traditional DLC pack, he did seem much more focused on the bite-sized method of add-on content. He confirmed that the team is looking at ways to provide DLC packs that can provide a full evening of fun, rather than an additional mission that would require a full week to complete. Hopefully, the microtransactions that the Watch Dogs team have in mind are reasonably-priced and don’t cause the same kind of outrage and controversy amongst fans that the Forza 5 DLC did.

It seems very likely that at least the first few rounds of add-on content will be story-driven and continue to flesh out the lore of game, similar to Ubisoft’s plan of attack with the Assassin’s Creed DLC packs.

Do you prefer cheaper, small chunks of content for DLC or more expensive, large additions to games? Sound off in the comments.
